Bajaj Auto, one of the world’s largest two-wheeler companies, and KTM, a Swiss sports bike brand, a joint venture, have reached the milestone of producing one million KTM motorcycles. KTM motorcycles in India are manufactured at Bajaj Auto’s Chakan plant near Pune in Maharashtra.

There was a partnership between Bajaj Auto and KTM about 15 years ago. Under this production started with the KTM 200 Duke about 10 years ago. Since then, the Bajaj Auto plant has become a KTM production center for 125-373cc motorcycles. A large number of these bikes are sold in India and are also exported to many countries. Rajiv Bajaj, CEO of Bajaj Auto, said: “Motorcycles are our strength and the production of one million KTM motorcycles is a testament to that.”

Stefan Pierer, CEO, Pierer Mobility, owner of the KTM brand, said: “This is a momentous occasion for both KTM and Bajaj Auto as companies. We follow four pillars of success. These include operating as a global entity, continually innovating, bringing in the right talent and in building differentiated brands around the world. The success of this partnership has given us confidence in how we can further expand our portfolio in the electric sector and build on our strong presence in the two-wheel-drive industry. wheels. ”

About this plant, Rajiv Bajaj said that out of 1 million KTM motorcycles, about half have been sold in the country and the rest have been exported to some 70 countries. The company’s plant can manufacture 2 lakh KTM bikes per year. Last year its output was around 1.6 lakh units. Due to the chip shortage in the current fiscal year, it may decrease further. KTM will also start selling the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter in Europe from next year. KTM, which claims to be the leading premium motorcycle brand, believes that the electric version of the Chetak is a good product for markets like Europe.
