BharOS: How is India’s mobile operating system different from Android and iOS? Do you know how it works?

India has completed preparations to launch its own operating system BharOS and the operating system is currently in the testing phase. The operating system will certainly look to directly replace Android or iOS at launch, which currently power most smartphone devices. BharOS will be a completely indigenous operating system. There will be a lot of differences in this compared to Android and iOS.

What is BharOS?

BharOS is a mobile operating system introduced by the Government of India, which has been developed to ensure the privacy and security of the compatriots. The preparation of this mobile operating system was done by the government a long time ago. The special thing is that both Android and iOS users will be able to use it. There are no default apps included with iOS. That is to say, the users will obtain the comfort that with this operating system they will be able to use only the applications that they want to use. Neither application will come preloaded in the operating system.

In BharOS, users will have complete freedom as to which permissions they want to grant to which app. In addition, the system will not force the user to use any application. It has been introduced with Native Over The Air (NOTE). NOTE updates are automatically downloaded and updated to your device. With this, the device is always updated with the latest version of the operating system. Because of this, security patches are continually available on the phone or mobile device and bugs are always fixed.

How is BharOS different from Android and iOS?

BharOS is based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). This makes it somewhat similar to Google’s Android operating system. iOS is Apple’s proprietary operating system and BharOS is not like it. The main difference between Android and BharOS is that the native operating system does not come with any Google services or applications. There are no pre-installed apps in BharOS, but users can download any app of their choice. The operating system may also allow users to download APK files. But APK files can be potentially dangerous.

Who has developed BharOS?

BharOS is developed by JandK Operations Pvt Ltd (JandKops), a Section 8 (non-profit) company set up by IIT Madras, IIT Madras Innovative Technologies Foundation. The Foundation is funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India under its National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NMICPS).
