In 2017, Rajbhar participated in the elections in alliance with the BJP.
Rajbhar contested the 2017 assembly elections in alliance with the BJP, with his party winning four seats. He became a minister in Yogi’s government. However, within two years, his alliance with the BJP broke down and he was expelled from the government. Rajbhar’s party joined the Samajwadi Party in 2022 and won six of the 403 seats in the assembly.
By supporting the BJP candidate during the presidential election, Rajbhar’s distance from the SP chief increased and he made himself heard in his opposition. Later, their alliance broke up and now he has become a vocal opponent of SP’s policies. Significantly, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in alliance with Apna Dal (Sonelal), the BJP won 64 out of 80 seats in the state, while the Congress won one, the SP five and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) 10. seats. So the SP-BSP contested the elections in alliance.
