Speaking to reporters after presenting the budget on February 1, Sitharaman said that the proposals made in the budget will drive fiscal consolidation and growth, especially inclusive growth.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Saturday that the main focus in the general budget presented for the fiscal year 2023-24 has been on economic growth. Speaking to reporters after presenting the budget on February 1, Sitharaman said that the proposals made in the budget will drive fiscal consolidation and growth, especially inclusive growth. Joined by senior ministry officials after presenting the budget, the Finance Minister said: “The main focus is growth. We want to maintain economic growth with reactivation.”

He attributed the growth to the country’s people, who readily accepted the aid and policy measures implemented by the government amid the pandemic to make the country the second fastest growing economy. The Finance Minister said it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s wish to continue high public capital spending. That is why he proposed a larger outlay of Rs 10 lakh crore. He said: “Mumbai would like the budget proposal.
