A British Sikh pleaded guilty to treason on Friday for planning to murder Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II on Christmas Day 2021. The defendant was detained in the grounds of Windsor Palace. Shortly after the arrest of defendant Jaswant Singh Chail (21), in a video that went viral on social media, Chail was seen wanting to kill the Queen to avenge the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar.
Chail pleaded guilty under Britain’s Treason Act at the Old Bailey court in London. The court will pronounce judgment on Chail on March 31. Commander Richard Smith, who is leading the investigation, described the incident as “very serious” and praised the officers who were on patrol during the incident. “He displayed tremendous bravery by taking on a masked man armed with a bow and arrow and then stopping him without harming anyone,” Smith said.
