Budget 2023: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitamaran presents the budget in Parliament. In her budget speech on Wednesday, the Finance Minister said that the central government has ensured that no one in the country goes hungry by providing free food grains to Rs 80 crores of poor people during the COVID-19 pandemic. 19. The Finance Minister said that the government is implementing a scheme to provide free food grains to poor people under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) which will incur an expense of Rs 2 lakh crore from 1st of January. He reported that private investment in agriculture increased to 9.3 percent in 2020-21 from seven percent in 2019-20.
