Digital desk, Jakarta. Five people died after a car plunged into a river due to bad weather in Pangkep Regency, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The car carrying six people plunged into the river at 5:15 a.m. local time Thursday, Pangkep police officer Ida Ayu Sustini was quoted as saying by the Xinhua news agency.
One survivor is still being treated at Pangkep Hospital, Sustini said. The bodies of the five deceased, including the driver and the three-year-old boy, have been recovered.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident but believe it was caused by bad weather. Indonesia has been experiencing heavy rain and strong winds since December, leading to disasters including floods and landslides.
