FM Nirmala Sitharaman said delayed GST compensation for some states is due to non-availability of AG certificate

GST: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has given a grand statement in Parliament on the complaint of states regarding the delay in getting GST compensation. The Finance Minister has explained why some states do not receive GST money. Apart from giving the reason behind it, the Finance Minister has also given advice to the states.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that instead of blaming the Center for the delay in GST clearing, states should ensure that the Accountant General’s certificate of authentication (AG) is sent on time. These are needed to get GST money.

Finance Minister responded in Lok Sabha

Responding to several questions on GST compensation raised by DMK’s A Raja and RSP’s NK Premachandran during Question Time in Lok Sabha, Sitharaman said that the Kerala government has not sent AG statements for five years, i.e. , from 2017-18 to 2021-22. She said: “I am looking at my records and it says that Kerala has not submitted AG certified statements for GST compensation for 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22. Sorry, no You’ve done it”. “I didn’t send it even for a year. Year after year is passing by and thus valuable House time is being wasted.”

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said: “Did you send me the certified account of the AG even for one year to receive my compensation dues? So it is alleged that the Center is not releasing funds on time. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said: “Upon receiving the statement, we will clear it up. You have not sent it even for a year and you keep accusing us of not giving you money on time.” She also said that this matter should be resolved soon and the central government will release money to the states as soon as the necessary documents are received.
