Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar held talks with British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly on Tuesday on various aspects of bilateral relations and the Indian G20 presidency. The phone conversation took place ahead of the UK Foreign Secretary’s possible visit to India on March 1-2 for the G20 Foreign Ministers’ meeting. Jaishankar tweeted: “Received a call from UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly. We reviewed bilateral relations and discussed the agenda of the G20 Presidency of India. This was the first telephone conversation between Jaishankar and Foreign Minister Cleverly after the controversy over a two-part BBC documentary on the Gujarat riots in 2002. India rejected the documentary as “part of propaganda”. The phone conversation is understood to have taken place on the implementation of a 10-year roadmap between India and Britain to strengthen ties in various fields.
