Indian boxers amassed 36,300 ranking points, leading the country to surpass major boxing ‘powers’ such as the United States and Cuba, which currently sit fourth and ninth respectively in the rankings. Kazakhstan (48,100) is the country that occupies the first position followed by Uzbekistan (37,600).
Indian boxing has seen phenomenal growth in recent years with teams consistently ranking in the top five nations at global tournaments such as the World Championship, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games. Indian boxers have won 16 medals in the last two Commonwealth Games. Since 2008, he has won 140 medals in the best international tournaments.
