Singapore. Three Indian-origin technicians from the Singapore Police Department were fined for attempting to steal electrical cables from their assigned workplace, while another man was electrocuted while on the job. In this case from 2020, Murugan Kothalam (27) was electrocuted while doing electrical work. The coaches: Ezhilarasan Nagarajan (26) and Radhakrishnan Ilavarasan (28) were fined $1,000 (Singapore) while Balasubramaniam Niwas (29) was fined $1,500. All three have confessed to the crime of attempted robbery.
Deputy Prosecutor V Jesudevan told the court that Ilavarasan and Nivas, on behalf of Alltech Systems Company, had arrived at the National Police Service Department building on October 15, 2020, at around 10:30 a.m. He said these two were instructed by their supervisor to give a tool used to remove the hose reel box (cable bundle box) to two other people. He said that Nivas and Ilavarasan had conspired to sell the bare wires by cutting them.
Nagarajan and Ilavarasan wound up the cable, then went to the main building to remove the hose reel. Later, the residence heard a thud and saw that the stairway Kothalam was standing on was shaking. Niwas felt that Kothalam got electrocuted and hit the ladder with his foot and Kothalam fell down. According to press reports, the lawyers for these defendants had asked the court to impose a lesser fine on their clients.
