INDvsAUS: Australia will miss Zampa against India: Sriram

Australia’s former assistant coach Sridharan Sriram has made a grand statement ahead of the four Test series against India. He has expressed disappointment that spinner Adam Zampa was not selected in the Australian squad for the four Test series.

Bangalore. Australia’s former assistant coach Sreedharan Sriram is disappointed that spinner Adam Zampa has not been selected in the Australian squad for the four Test series against India from 9 February. Australia have included experienced midfielder Nathan Lyon, Ashton Agar, midfielder Mitchell Swapson and young midfielder Todd Murphy in their 18-man squad. Sriram, who was associated with the Australian team for six years, told the Sydney Morning Herald that I would have liked to see Zampa bowl here (in India) because he has pace. He has the ability to get help off the field.

He said this is something where I keep an eye on which bowler bothers the batsman with the help of the pitch. I think Zampa is that type of bowler.” Sriram, who played eight ODIs for India, said that Zampa was very enthusiastic about the India tour and had even spoken to him about it.

He said that he was more excited to come to India than anyone else. He wanted to play test matches in India. He called me twice two months ago to tell me that he wants to make the team and he is very excited. Sriram said that was why he had started playing first-class matches for New South Wales. He too did well, taking three wickets apiece in both innings, for which he is quite disappointed not to have been picked for the tour.

Sriram said the real test for Australia would be to keep the spin at a high level for a long period of time. He said you can throw a little bit slower or a little bit faster, but you have to get help from the field and for that your action has to be really strong. Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Nathan Lyon have been able to sustain their action for long periods even in difficult conditions. It will be a challenge for Agar and Swapson to do it.
