Various announcements were made for the agricultural sector, from promoting chemical-free agriculture to funding ag-tech startups to delivering digital services to farmers. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in her budget speech that the use of ‘Kisan Drones’ will be promoted. She said the farmer’s drones will do the job of assessing crops, digitizing land records, spraying pesticides and nutrients on crops. For this scheme, the government has allocated Rs 60 crore in the budget.

The scheme will come in PPP mode for high-tech service delivery
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said: “A scheme will be launched in PPP mode for the delivery of high-tech and digital services to farmers in collaboration with public sector research institutions, private agri-tech companies and stakeholders from the agricultural value chain. Regarding chemical-free agriculture, Finance Minister Sitharaman said that natural chemical-free agriculture will be promoted across the country. In the first phase of this plan, special attention will be paid to farmers’ lands located in the 5-kilometre-wide corridors of the Ganges River.

The agriculture sector budget increased to Rs 1.38 lakh crore
Last year, an allocation of Rs 450 crore (estimated budget 2021-22) was made for the traditional agricultural development scheme. However, revised estimates show that only Rs 100 crore was spent during the year. However, it is still unclear how much allocation has been made in this scheme for the 2022-23 fiscal year as it was merged under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana. This scheme has been brought in to improve productivity and returns to farmers. The budget for the agricultural sector, including agricultural research, animal husbandry and fisheries, was increased to 1.38 trillion rupees (lakh crore). The budget for the agriculture sector for the fiscal year 2021-22 was Rs 1.35 lakh crore.
