Cases have been reported in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Nevada, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wisconsin. One person died in Washington from a blood infection after using eye drops. The three people who lost their sight have been reported in California and New Jersey.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa causes damage
Fifty-five affected persons were found to be infected with Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It is a type of bacteria that acts as resistant to most antibiotics. However, not all affected people develop an eye infection. Approximately 11 of them suffer from an eye infection, while 3 have lost vision in one eye forever. On the other hand, the problem of respiratory infection was seen in some and urinary infection in some. Along with this, one person died due to the bacteria getting into the bloodstream.
According to the report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, people affected by the infection were questioned during treatment. During this, it was discovered that they had all used eye drops that artificially cause tears before becoming infected. At the same time, many of these people could not remember the name of the brand. About 85% of people had used a particular brand of preservative-free eye drops.
