New Delhi/Mumbai. While on the one hand, on the petition filed in the Supreme Court in relation to the Civic Elections of Maharashtra, a hearing has been demanded to the CJI as soon as possible. At the same time, the Supreme Court will hear the petition on March 21.

Significantly, at the last hearing, the SC had given an interim order to the Maharashtra government and the State Election Commission to maintain the status quo regarding the election process of local bodies in the state.

It should be known that even before this, the hearing on the issue of local body elections in Maharashtra including the Mumbai Municipal Corporation was postponed for about 5-6 times. It can be known that due to the pending issue of the CBO reservation in the civic bodies elections, the elections of many municipalities in the state of Maharashtra are currently pending. At the same time, the high court had delivered its verdict in this matter on July 28, 2022 for the last time.

In the same hearing, the court allowed the political reservation for the OBCs, but the process of electing mayors directly through public votes and whether the OBC reservation will be applicable in the elections of 92 municipalities in the state. .
