Australia head coach Andrew McDonald believes the biggest challenge for his team in the next four Border-Gavaskar Trophy Tests will be dealing with the Indian spinners. The Australian team is currently preparing for the first test match to be held in Nagpur from February 9. Macdonald had previously warned his batsmen that they would have to find their own ways of dealing with the ‘sliding spin’. Australia has preferred to practice on their own rather than play practice matches.
McDonald said before the team left for Bengaluru on Wednesday: “I think the new ball slides more. We are preparing for this.” He said: “This is a slider turn. There’s a good chance our starters will be facing spin-off pitchers initially, so it’s getting extra attention during practice and DIVA hitting coach (Michael Di Vento) is playing a key role in this.
Macdonald said: “The key to success is having the clarity to play this type of bowling. It will depend on the person and the circumstances. The Australian team is currently training here in Alur. McDonald said: “We’re trying to make sure hitters have a clear say in his method. You won’t get the same conditions as in a match and there are complications associated with a cricket tour.
