The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has recently released its report for 2021 stating that 13,372 people lost their lives in traffic accidents due to fog. This report has been published on behalf of Road Accidents in India 2021. Also, 25,360 people have been reported injured in these types of accidents. The highest death toll has been found in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, where the fog killed 3,782 people in UP alone. After that 1800 people died in such accidents in Bihar which is the second highest number after UP. In Madhya Pradesh, 1,233 people died in such traffic accidents.
At the same time, there were some areas where not a single person lost their lives because of the fog. These include Goa, Lakshadweep and Andaman Nicobar. It has been said in the report that every year 45 lakh road accidents occur in India. About 1.5 million people die in these. 9% of deaths have been attributed to traffic accidents due to fog.
Uttar Pradesh has reported the highest number of such deaths. Not only that, if we talk about cities, then most of the cases of loss of life have come to light in UP cities as well. These include the names of Kanpur (173), Agra (108), Prayagraj (97), Ghaziabad (91) and Lucknow (67), Varanasi (56). In the Bihar capital Patna, 56 people were reported to have died in 2021 due to smog. Along with this, it has also been said in the report that it is necessary to educate people to prevent this type of accident.
