New Zealand coach Larsen expects Bolt to play in the World Cup

Last year, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) agreed to release Boult from his core contract because he wanted to make himself available to T20 leagues around the world. He currently plays for MI Emirates in the UAE International League T20.

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) manager Gavin Larsen expects fast bowler Trent Boult to lead the team’s bowling attack in the ODI World Cup which takes place in India later this year. Last year, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) agreed to release Boult from his core contract because he wanted to be available for T20 leagues around the world. He currently plays for MI Emirates in the UAE International League T20.

Although the 33-year-old has expressed his desire to participate in ICC (International Cricket Council) events, his participation in the tournament has yet to be confirmed. “The door is open for Bolt,” Larsen told SENZ Mornings, adding that Bolt has been in contact with the team’s head coach, Gary Stead, and the two are in constant communication. He said: “Gary and Trent talk regularly. We all know Bolt’s ability and experience from him. He has been a match winner for us for many years.

The left-arm bowler, Boult, has the ability to swing the ball both ways at high speed. This ability makes him one of the most dangerous bowlers in all formats of the game. “We want him involved (in World Cup planning), we fully understand his position so we will continue to work with him,” said Larsen, a former New Zealand player who played eight Tests and 121 ODIs.

In the absence of Boult and the experienced Tim Southee, New Zealand’s relatively inexperienced attacking pace struggled in the recently concluded white ball series in India. The team lost 0-3 in the ODI series and 1-2 in the T20I series. New Zealand have reached back-to-back World Cup finals in 2015 and 2019, but are yet to win the tournament.
