Dubai. Indian fast bowler Mohammad Siraj and opener Shubman Gill received nominations for the ICC Cricketer of the Month award on Tuesday. New Zealand opener Devon Conway is the third player in the running for the award, having scored three centuries and two half-centuries in all formats so far this year. Gill has been impressive in both cue ball formats over the last month while Siraj has been impressive in ODI with the new ball in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah.
Gill played the first T20 against Sri Lanka in Mumbai scoring just seven runs, but scored 46 runs in the third match. Following this, he scored 70, 21 and 116 runs in three ODIs. In the first ODI against New Zealand in Hyderabad, he scored 208 runs off 149 balls when neither batsman could cross 28 from the other end. He became the youngest cricketer to score a double century in ODI cricket. After this he scored 40 and 112 not out in the next two innings.
He scored 360 runs, equaling Pakistan captain Babar Azam’s record for the highest score in a three-match ODI series. Siraj, on the other hand, took two wickets for 30 runs in seven overs in the first ODI against Sri Lanka. Following this, he took three and four wickets in the next two matches respectively. Against New Zealand in Hyderabad he took four wickets and in the second match he took one wicket for just ten runs in six overs.
