What is Tehreek-e-Labaik?
According to a Reuters report, Tehreek-e-Labbaik (Movement of the Followers of the Prophet) is an extremist Sunni Islamist group whose main goal is to uphold Pakistan’s draconian blasphemy laws and punish blasphemers. The movement grew out of a 2015 protest campaign to demand the release of Mumtaz Qadri, a police guard who had assassinated Punjab Governor Salman Taseer in 2011 for demanding reform of the blasphemy law. Qadri was later hanged.
