Kathua Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) Chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad gave his reaction on Sunday to the disqualification of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha. He said that he is against this decision. This is not good for democracy.
Significantly, Rahul Gandhi was sentenced to two years in jail by a Surat court on Thursday in a 2019 criminal libel case. Following this, he was disqualified as a member of the Lok Sabha.

Azad, a former Congress leader, told reporters on the sidelines of a function in Kathua district: “I am against it, whether it is Rahul Gandhi or Lalu Prasad Yadav or any other MP/MLA. This (disqualification) should not occur until the final court renders the sentence. This is not good for democracy. In this way, the entire Parliament and Assembly will be left empty.” “There should be a different criteria for political leaders,” he added.

Meanwhile, Azad, while addressing a public meeting in Barnoti, said that the Jammu and Kashmir administration’s claim that it is creating ample job opportunities for the youth is totally wrong. He said that the administration is taking land away from the local people.
