Exact plot details are being kept under wraps, but sources say the show will be a political thriller with De Niro playing a former US president. Newman, Oppenheim and Oppenheim are writers and executive producers of the series, with a story by Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Schmidt.
De Niro is one of the most celebrated movie stars of all time, having won Academy Awards for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor for Raging Bull and The Godfather Part Two, respectively.
