Indian shuttlecocks B Sai Praneeth and Kiran George recorded singles wins over their opponents to enter the second round of the men’s singles of the Thailand Open Super 300 badminton tournament here on Wednesday. Praneeth defeated Mads Christophersen of Denmark 21-13 21-14 in a match that lasted 31 minutes. She will now face South Korea’s Hyeok Jin-jeon in the second round. George, on the other hand, faced a tough challenge from Chinese Taipei’s Li Chia Hao but managed to win 21-17 19-21 23-21.

He will now face third seed Cheuk Yiu Lee from Hong Kong in the second round. But Sameer Verma, Priyanshu Rajawat and Mithun Manjunath faced defeat in their first round matches. In the women’s singles, Asmita Chaliha defeated her compatriot Anupama Upadhyay 21-16 21-19 to set up a second-round clash with Denmark’s sixth seed Line Hojmark Jaarsfeld. The pairing of Simran Singhi and Ritika Thakar were defeated in the women’s doubles. In mixed doubles, Rohan Kapoor and N Sikki Reddy defeated TIE Alexander Lindemann and Josephine Wu 21-11 21-16. But the pairing of B Sumeeth Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa lost their first round match.
