Sharp drop in two-wheeler sales, the lowest in 3 years, find out who sold how many vehicles

India is one of the largest markets for two-wheelers. Although last year, that is, 2022, has not been special for the two-wheeled segment. Today we tell you about retail sales in December 2022. Retail sales dropped to 11,33,138 units in December 2022. These were the lowest December 2022 two-wheeler retail sales since 2019. Sales in December of 2021 they were reduced by 11.19 percent to 12,75,894 units. At the same time, 15,97,554 units sold in December 2020 and 14,25,994 units sold in December 2019 are 29.07 percent and 20.54 percent less than sales.

According to the Rushlane report, the reason for this decline could be rising inflation, inflation in purchases, or the purchase of electric vehicles. Taking sales during the 2022 calendar year into account, sales increased to 1,53,88,062 units during the January-December 2022 period, up 13.37 percent from the 1,35,73,682 units sold in the same period of 2021 1,39,26,085 units sold in December 2020 also marked a 10.50% improvement, but a 15.47% decrease from 1,82,04,593 units sold in December 2019.

Hero MotoCorp sold 3,30,175 units in December 2022, a decrease of 1,13,634 units from 4,43,809 units sold in December 2021. Market share fell from 34.78 percent year-on-year to 29.14 percent . Sales of Honda two-wheelers increased from 284,998 units to 294,011 units in December 2021, a year-over-year increase of 22.34% to 25.95%.

TVS Motor was at number 3 with retail sales of 176,072 units, down from 190,457 units sold in December 2021. Bajaj Auto also faced a drop in retail sales from 1,64,133 units sold in December 2021 to 1 ,25,854 units in 2022.

RE sales increased to 56,028 units last month from 41,675 units sold in December 2021. Suzuki sales also increased to 53,043 units in December 2022 from 42,643 units in December 2021. Yamaha Motors sold 39,860 units last month , higher than the 39,357 units sold in the year 2021.

2W Electric Retail Sales December 2022
Ola sold 17,280 units compared to just 240 units sold in December 2021. During this period, the market share increased 0.02% YoY to 1.52%. CEO Bhavish Agarwal has said on social media that he expects the Ola S1 line to become the best-selling scooter in India by August 2023, surpassing the Honda Activa.

Hero Electric sales also increased to 8,091 units from 6,061 units year-over-year. At the same time, Ather Energy’s sales increased to 7,646 units in December 2022, from 1,813 units in December 2021. Okinawa has become 5,279 units on this list. Ampere sold 4,408 units. Piaggio sold 2,711 units, Classic Legends 2,681 units and Okaya 1,449 units.
