Digital desktop, Las Vegas. The joint mobility venture of tech giant Sony and automaker Honda launched a new Afila electric vehicle (EV) prototype at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The new car will first be sold in the US in 2026, The Verge reports. It is said to start pre-orders in 2025.
According to Yasuhide Mizuno, CEO of Sony Honda Mobility, the car will take advantage of Sony’s expertise in artificial intelligence (AI), entertainment, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) to present a unique EV.
Afila embodies our concept of an interactive relationship, where people feel the sense of interactive mobility, and where mobility can sense and understand people and society using sensing technologies and artificial intelligence, Mizuno said in a statement.
Mizuno also said that Afila will strive to embody autonomy, growth and affinity. In addition, Sony said it expected its software to offer subscription services, so vehicle owners would likely pay a monthly fee to access certain features.
