Maharashtra Six arrested for stealing and slaughtering cattle

Thane: Police have arrested six people for stealing and slaughtering cattle from local farmers in Navi Mumbai. The defendants were arrested this week for stealing cattle from Panvel taluka in Maharashtra’s Raigad district, an official said on Friday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Panvel Zone 2), Pankaj Dahane, said: “Earlier this month, two cases were registered in Panvel in which two local farmers claimed that their cattle had been stolen by unknown persons.” He reported that there has been an increase in cases of cattle rustling in the area. After the complaints, the police team identified the defendants and arrested them.

He said that it was later learned that after stealing the cattle, the defendants also sacrificed it and sold its meat to slaughterhouses. Police said the accused have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. The case is being investigated. (agency)
