India’s top runners including Srinu Bugatha, A Beliappa and Jyoti Singh Gawate will compete here in the New Delhi Marathon on February 26 with the aim of qualifying for the Asian Games to be held in China later this year. The race will pass through prominent places in the city such as Humayun’s Tomb, Lodhi Garden and Khan Market. The AFI had already announced that the New Delhi Marathon would be part of the series of qualifying events for the Asian Games. “The athletes’ performance in this national marathon will be considered for selection/participation in the Asian Games to be held in China, provided they meet the qualification standards set by AFI,” the national federation said.
“The qualifying time of two hours and 15 minutes for men and two hours and 37 minutes for women has been maintained for selection for the Asian Games marathon event,” he said. Only runners who can take up to two hours 40 minutes for men and three hours 10 minutes for women will be able to participate. Riders who do not make the cut will enter the open category of the Apollo Tires New Delhi Marathon. The runners will participate in four categories of Marathon, Half Marathon, 10 km and 5 km.
