Nagpur, The thieves broke into the house of a retired army officer in the area of the Gittikhadan police station. Jewelry worth Rs 3.71 lakh was stolen from the cabinet by breaking the lock. The theft was detected on Friday night and the police were informed. Police have registered a case on the complaint of Mahipal Brijlal Sonavane (53), a resident of Guru Dutt Society, Dabha Ring Road.
Mahipal was a subhedar in the army. His health and that of his wife were poor. Since March 8, both have been admitted to a private hospital on Wardha Road. He had asked his relative to take care of the house before going to the hospital. On Thursday night the relative checked that everything was fine. When his sister-in-law went to see the house on Friday night, she saw that the lock was broken. She informed Mahipal. The thieves had gotten inside by breaking the latch on the door. Gold and silver jewelry stored in a cloth bag in the closet was stolen.
He informed the police about the incident. As soon as the news was received, Deputy Inspector Abhay Phad along with his team arrived at the scene. On the statement of Mahipal doing panchnama, a robbery case was registered against the unknown defendant. Police are scanning the images from CCTV cameras installed at the nearby facility.
