Digital desk, Seoul. South Korean horror film Hellbound topped the ranking of the world’s most popular TV shows one day after its release.

The Korean-language Netflix original became the most-watched TV show on the streaming platform on Saturday (US time), according to data from streaming analytics firm FlixPatrol, Yonhap news agency reported.

Hellbound ranked first on the list of most-watched programs in 24 countries, including South Korea, Belgium, and Mexico. While it ranks third in many countries, including the United States and Canada.

It has pushed the worldwide sensation Squid Game, also a Korean original, to second place, which has held the first place for a long time.

Written and directed by Yeon Sang-ho, Hellbound depicts the upheaval and social unrest that follows a series of unexplained supernatural events.

It is based on a webtoon titled Hell, written and drawn by Yon, which has received wide acclaim since its release in 2019.

However, the next day (Sunday US time), Hellbound dropped to second place and climbed to the top.
