Ankara. Turkey, Syria, Lebanon and Israel were devastated by the powerful earthquake on Monday. There were three big earthquakes here in less than 24 hours. In which more than 2,300 people have died and some 10,000 people have been injured. The rescue work is underway. Hundreds of people are trapped in collapsed buildings. In such a situation, the death toll is likely to rise even higher.

The greatest devastation due to the earthquake has occurred in Turkey and Syria. So far, 1,498 people have lost their lives in Turkey. Whereas, more than 7000 people have been injured. At the same time, 805 people have been killed in Syria and more than 2,000 are injured. The total death toll in both countries has exceeded 2,300. However, the good thing is that the earthquake in Lebanon and Israel did not cause much damage.

The first earthquake occurred at 4:00 am Turkish time. Its intensity was measured at 7.8 on the Richter scale. Its epicenter was north of the city of Gaziantep, about 90 km from the Syrian border. Many people died in their sleep in this earthquake.

The second earthquake occurred around 10 am and its intensity was 7.5. According to the American Geological Survey, its center was only 10 kilometers below the surface. The epicenter of the earthquake was near the Turkish city of Ekinozu, which is close to the city of Gaziantep in southeastern Turkey, which has a population of two million and was the epicenter of the quake early Monday morning. It is a severe winter here and the temperature is close to zero.

After two strong earthquakes, the third earthquake occurred around 3 in the afternoon. Its intensity was 6.0. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), tremors from the quake were felt in central Turkey. Apart from this, 78 aftershocks were recorded. Its intensity was 4 to 5.

The earthquake caused great destruction in 10 cities, including Ankara, Gaziantep, Kahramanmaras, Diyarbakır, Malatya, Nurdagi. More than 3,000 buildings have collapsed here. Hundreds of people are trapped under the rubble. Efforts are being made to save them.

At the same time, the Turkish government has issued a red and emergency alert in many areas. All schools and universities will be closed for one week. 200 flights have also been cancelled.
