Amid rising inflation, Uttarakhand consumers will have to pay more for electricity and water from April 1. Electricity rates can increase by up to 12 percent in the state starting April 1. In this regard, the Uttarakhand Urja Nigam has sent the proposal to the Electricity Regulatory Commission, which may approve the proposal at its meeting to be held this week. This will affect 27.50 lakh consumers in the state. Government sources said the corporation’s proposal called for a 17 percent increase, but the commission reduced it to 12 percent. On the other hand, Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan got government approval to increase water tariffs by 15 percent. With this, water will become more expensive by Rs 150-200 per quarter across the state from April 1. Neelima Garg, Chief General Manager, Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan said that water bills are increasing every year and this will not place a huge burden on consumers. On the other hand, Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Speaker Karan Mahara said that in this regard he will take information from the officials on Monday and only after that he will decide the future strategy.
